The conversation goes something like this:

Player> hi, how do I become a member of your club?
Me> no club, the tourney is open to everyone
Player> when I try to register it says private
Me> Do you use other Id’s?
Player> No
Me> Does anyone else use your PC?
Player> No
Me> I don’t know why you can’t register, its usually because a player from that PC is on my blacklist.

Should I refer the player to support@ or wait till they 'come clean' about their real Id?

Nothing to be done. Just refer them to support an avoid the conflict

player> how do i become a member of your club?
td> I don't have a club, but people on my blacklist are excluded from playing in my tourneys. I am unwilling to alter the blacklist to allow you in. Please try another tourney, or contact support@bridgebase.com to continue this discussion

Player> hi, how do I become a member of your club?
Me> no club, the tourney is open to everyone
Player> when I try to register it says private
Me> the last time you played, you left in the middle of the tournament. that is against the rules and you were blacklisted.
Player> it was an emergency and I'm very sorry. I would really like to play your tournament, can you consider amnesty.
Me> ok, but I've noted this and if you leave again, you won't get another chance.
Player>Thank you thank you thank you

Then I remove them from my Enemies list, but they still can't register. Is there a way to let someone in to a tournament after it's been created with them on the "undesirables" list?

I don't think so, but you can try adding someone to your friends list or to an INCLUDE list ; maybe the server can handle the include and exlude lists together.

When a player is removed from your enemies list they need to sign off/on before they can register. This works when they are removed from your enemies list in your profile.

How do you keep notes on players when they have left the tournament and gone offline, I can add them to the enemy list but not update their profile with comments.

You can't, jillybean, but the only reasons anyone gets on my enemies list are (1) leaving or (2) some sort of rudeness or ethics problem. In case 2, I add a note to their profile while they are online. That way, anyone who is enemy-ized without a note must be case 1. Any special circumstances, I keep a written note to myself until I see them online, then add it to their profile notes. Quite frequently, someone who leaves will be back online in about 15 minutes, and I do watch for that and add notes when I see it.

Thanks for the info about signing off/on, I'll try that next time.

Candybar, if you are using "Exclude enemies of the host" feature, then this person cannot chat with you in the first place. So there is no way that person can ask you for any amnesty.

If I understand jillybean's starting post correctly, someone else ( or the same booter with a different ID) is trying to enter the tournament from the IP address that has been blocked because of the exclusion.

I somehow find " Exclude players from a file on PC" much easier to manage than using " Exclude Enemies" . You dont want to shut the doors of communication by marking them as Enemies. Removing a person from your exclusion list and uploading the new exclusion list by Editting Tournament feature can be done quite easily without the person having to sign off and sign on.

I have not tried with an Exclsuion and an Inclusion list in tandem, but I wonder how the server will resolve a person if his ID is in both the lists.

Only if you block chat from enemies. Not everyone does that.

Also, to Candybar, have you tried some button like update tournament after you have deleted people from your enemies list? I had a similar problem when I was running tournaments for friends only, and added people as friends, but they still couldn't sign up. I found out that I had to hit some kind of update key for the tournament.

I think removing someone from your enemy list is not quite enough to enable them to play in your tourney if it has already been created - you also need to 'modify' the tourney so that the tourney's version of the enemy list is updated.

I guess the modify tournament button would upload the new list of enemies, removing the ban. This sounds better than getting the user to sign off/on.

I have no problem chatting with enemies, not sure why you do, unless you have deliberately blocked chat with enemies.

I tried several things, including modifying the tournament, but nothing worked. If you figure out what you did, please let me know.

I would like to know how to make an exclusion list -- is it just a simple text file with a name on each line? What delimits the names? Can I make it in MSWord, or does it have to be a .txt file? Is this written up somewhere that I haven't found yet?

The Friends/enemies button in the New Tourney screen is the simplest way to manage lists.

Lists are simply text files with one name per line (stray spaces can and will hurt)

I hate to see blacklisted people playing in my tournaments. I checked a few of my tourneys and in every tourney I had the same experience.

I create my small tourneys (most of it have 64 entries) with 2 restrictions:
Exclude players from a file on your PC (just a textfile, about 250 names on it) and Include levels (b,i,a,e,w).
As soon as the limit of entries is reached I set hhmmss to 0,0,0, I deselect the levels option in the InEx-section (in order to get more subs and avoid a lot of chats about "your tourney is private"), and then modify tourney. After the start the Exclude file option is still selected and I see the correct place and name of the Exclude file (L:\Bridge Base Online\ExcList.txt).
I think this is all OK but nevertheless I see blacklisted people who have registered as player and others who have been subbed in (right mouse click procedure).
The players have no space(s) in their names.

I don't like a switch to Exclude Enemies. Is there a solution for my problem?

For various reasons, only an INCLUDE list or a private club will guarantee that perps are kept out. There are too many ways for a blacklisted player to sneak back in, deliberately or inadvertently.

Meanwhile, for now, I suggest that you simply replace blacklisted players as you see them -- and track which ones are blacklisted, use Enemies for simplicity. If you dont want your primary ID cluttered up w/enemies who are really just blacklisted, consider using a second ID when running Ts.

This maybe the problem.

You are using 2 restrictions

1. Exclude people from a file on your PC
2. Include people with levels b, i and so on.

An enemy whom you wanted to exclude will satisfy 2nd Inclusion condition. These 2 conditions may be an "OR" function and not an "AND" function.

Simply remove the "Include by Level' restriction.

Include by Country and Include by Level are simply not practical and not effective. Bridge Players are smart and once they see these restrictions in the " Tourney Description" , it is a mouse click away for them to change their Flag and Levels.
