you are south

Scoring: IMP

1 - p- 1- 1
?

in non competitive auctions your agreement is to rebid 2 followed by 2, thus describing a hand in the 16-18 pt category with1354 distribution. (Direct raises with 3 card support are common and expected on minimum hands of this shape)
In competition you play support doubles. How do you plan to describe your hand in this context. Presume pard make some minimum response to your choice of calls. what next? Any macroagreements that you and pard have that impact your choice of calls PLEASE state them.

x will get you 1nt, 2 receives 2

For some unknown reason you and partner have not discussed this sequence.

I guess (since im posting this sequence) it's obvious that pard and i didnt get it right.

2 seems to be a perfectly ok bid here.

I would make a support double. My next move, if any, depends on what partner's "minimum action" is.

Hi,

since you are playing supp X, I would just
bid that.

Your primary concern is to find out, if you
have a fit in a mayor.

The answer will tell you, how much worth
your hand is, and you can still raise 2H to 3H
as an atemp to get to game.

If partner bids 1NT, this should show a spade
stopper 6-9HCP.

You can now bid 2C, which completes your
describtion regarding shape, it should also
show add. strength, if partner now bids only
2H, you should give up.

With kind regards
Marlowe

If I play support doubles, I'll make one.

If the auction proceeds:

1D P 1H (1S)
X P 1NT

I will try 2C now, showing an unbalanced hand with 5+ diamonds, 4+ clubs, and exactly 3 hearts, and a non-minimum.

As a general rule, I play that after a support double has been made, then

2 of a suit below 2 of my major (not my partner's suit) is a suggestion to play there with 4M 5+ of the other suit, and a weak hand.
2 of my partner's first bid suit is a preference for that suit, but usually with 3/4 card support.
2 of my suit is a suggestion to play there, sometimes on a 4-3 fit, if I have no alternative bid.

A cue-bid is usually a hand that wants to look for 3NT, although may rarely be an advanced cue-bid agreeing my major.

1NT/2NT are natural, showing 6-9/10-12 respectively.

Bidding partner's first suit at the 3 level is invitational, showing 4 card support and about 10-12 points.

3 of my major is invitational with at least a 5 card suit

3NT/4M is to play

A jump cue-bid is a splinter

Do you play that

1 - 1
2

as forcing?

For what its worth, I think that this hand is a clear cut double

As the others have said :

1) support double
2) 2 on 1NT to complete description showing a good hand imo

no, 2 is an ambiguous rebid (11-18).

For those that x and rebid , how would you have bid a hand with same distribution (or a 5th club) and minimum strength.

I would have bid 2 directly but only if I don't have 3 cause I play support double ...

Always X
support double for 3 Hearts, or neg. double for 4 Clubs, even max. double can be played. Whatever way pd takes it, I have it.
With most pds, this is a support X.
Kind Regards

Roland
