Allison Young and Josh Turner covering Fever and Autumn in New York.

That was fun! She seems a bit young and innocent to be recording Fever but then what do I know. I can remember listening to Peggy Lee's rendition back in the 50s. I could have sworn that what is sung here as "Cause I know you're going to treat me right" was "And you know I'm going to treat you right" but the internet says I am wrong. Can't argue with the internet. Or can't win, anyway. I prefer my version. "I light up when you call my name and you know I'm going to treat you right". Yep.

I had not heard of Allison Young, I imagine we will hear more.

Discovered an amazing voice Yannis Papadopoulos of Beast in black.

This is by no means as high as he can go (checkout his cover of Nightwish's Ghost love score), the band also do a decent cover of Motorhead's "Killed by death" so he has an enormous range.

Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake by Robbie O'Connell and cast.

https://youtu.be/eGoqOv-4URA

Danú performed this in Georgetown on Saturday.

Quote

Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake

As I sat in my window last evening
The letter was brought round to me
A little gilt-edged invitation sayin'
Gilhooley come over to tea
Each Christmas, the Fogartys' sent it
So I went just for old friendships sake
And the first thing they gave me to tackle
Was a slice of Miss Fogarty's cake

And there were plums and prunes and cherries
There were citrons and raisins and cinnamon, too
There was nuts, and cloves and berries
And a crust that was nailed on with glue
There were caraway seeds in abundance
Such that work up a fine stomach ache
That could kill a man twice after eating a slice
Of Miss Fogarty's Christmas cake

Miss Mulligan wanted to try it
But really it wasn't no use
For we worked in it over an hour
But a piece of it wouldn't come loose
Till Kelly came in with a hatchet
And Murphy came in with a saw
But Miss Fogerty's cake had the power
For to paralyze any man's jaws

[And there were plums and prunes and cherries ...]

Miss Fogarty proud as a peacock
Kept smiling and talk'n away
Till she tripped over Flanagans brogans
And she spilt the patin in her tea
Aye Gilhooley she says you're not eat'n
Try a little bit more of me cake
Oh no Miss Fogarty says I
Any more and my stomach would break

[And there were plums and prunes and cherries ...]

Maloney was hit with the colic
O'Donald's a pain in his head
Mc'Naughton lay down on the sofa
And he swore that he wished he was dead
Miss Bailey went into hysterics
And there she did wriggle and shake
And all of us swore they were poisoned
From eating Miss Fogarty's cake

[And there were plums and prunes and cherries ...]

Yes it would kill a man twice after eating a slice
Of Miss Fogarty's Christmas cake

Carry On

Quote

When nearing the end of the recording sessions for Déjà Vu, Graham Nash told Stephen Stills that they still didn't have an opening track. Many recording acts or producers prefer to start an album with a particularly catchy song, in order to set the mood and encourage listeners who are checking it out for the first time. Stills took two incomplete songs — (one being the song Questions[1] he'd written for and recorded with Buffalo Springfield), and edited them together with parts of a jam session from a few days earlier, to produce one finished piece. -- wikipedia:

Appropriate coronavirus song, although written long before.

some time ago they sacked their lead singer, the drummer took the mic and they hired a female drummer with a really good voice, so many of their songs are actually 2 drummers in a duet.

This made my day!
As to Kamala Harris, I'm the same age as her father, and her age lies between the ages of my two daughters. Hardly a reason to put her on the ballot, but so what.
I looked up the Wiki entry on The beach Boys and it notes that Surfin USA is a re-write of Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen. I guess I should be embarrassed to admit I never noticed this. I can be oblivious.

Oh Daddy Daddy
I beg of you
Whisper to Mommy
It's alright with you.

I like it.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the world has changed.

Or maybe not

Today I am playing everything in 1/4 tone dropped tuning. I tried it to play AC/DC and then have been playing other tunes dropped too. It was difficult tuning it exactly 1/4 tone but I seem to have each string sounding pleasing to the ear, they are relatively tuned and the dropped A chord sounded vaguely correct - so its a start :)
