Scoring: IMP

RHO opens 1, and you, as a crazy junior, bid 2. LHO passes, and pd, as a crazy junior, raises you to 5.

First trick: small -J-Q-K. opps don't use defensive signals.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Hmm, I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote this. Anyway...

I don't think RHO has 4 clubs. The cover from him is dubious anyway, but it's even more dubious if he has 4 of them. I "need" diamonds 2-2 (possibly defensive error, but eh), so I put him on 4423 shape.

So I ruff a spade at T2, play a heart to my K, ruff another spade, and pitch two spades on two clubs. Then I lead a trump from dummy, win any return, and draw the last trumps. It is safe to ruff the third heart from dummy into my hand to draw the last two trumps.

I'll take some risks here. I'll finesse in hearts, then try another finesse in trumps

Ditto. RHO may rise from A-K-x, A-Q-x or K-Q-x.

This is better than the alternative of leading a diamond from hand. LHO is not as apt to rise from HHx.

Think everyone is missing the boat here. If you play a trump at some point they are going to play a spade and tap the dummy.

Win club, diamond.

After tap, ditch one spade on club, heart to king, ruff spade, AQ of hearts ditching last spade, ruff club, diamond.

I need clubs 3-3 (or the person with the doubleton somehow winning his one trump honor prematurely), hearts three each.

That was my thought as well, but it is not a reason for not playing a trump at trick two. If the opps win trick two and tap dummy, that is when we deal with that problem.

So, assume I play a diamond at trick two and a spade comes back. Ruff in dummy, heart to K, ruff another spade, cash a club intending to pitch a spade. I play clubs before hearts since I intend to cash two hearts and one club to pitch my remaining two spades, so I might as well cash the club first. Sometimes something strange happens - like RHO pitching on the club. If that happens, I just cash clubs and concede down one to three trump losers.

In any event, my plan would be to ruff two spades and pitch two spades, one on a club and one on a heart. If everything holds up, try to split out the trump.
