Hi,

if the 2nd double is not only t/o, but promises
add. values, say +18 Pass, is an real option.

Otherwise you have to guess, and your guess
is as good as mine.

3, partner will make 3 tricks at most in the majors against 3, 1 in the minors for us would make it only 4. Sure he could have A or K, but LHO could be 65 as well. So run from here now.

Pass, partner is unlikely to have five hearts since he could have overcalled 3m with both majors. I think his typical shape here is 4432 or worse.

Confident 3 ;). I don't hate my hand (really).

As an aside, what is our defense to a 2N opening for the minors? It matters.

even if this diverts, I would like to hear answers to that. We don't have a decent one, just 3C and 3D showing weaker and stronger major takeouts and double for cooperative.

I think most play
3: t/o with longer hearts, or 5-5
3: t/o with longer spades

Sorry don't know what defence. Pretend it's something sensible.

BTW Gnome taught me

3: 5 hearts 4 spades
3: 5 spades 4 hearts
3M: this major, not very good
3NT: natural
4: one major, very good
4: 5-5
4M: this major, pretty good
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

sorry, too many variables --like pass and bid later and 4th chair actions. My bad for asking...will open a new string in non-natural when I get around to it ;)

Pass - I don't like to play 4-3 fits when an opponent has announced a 5-5 two-suiter.

This auction is very different to 3-X-P-? as in that one it's probably better to pass and take the money. However on this hand where LHO has announced 5-5minors, and with us holding xxxx, they could easily be making 3X. Partner's 2nd x was for takeout so the opponents could have a 8-9 card fit. Put me down for 3. Partner also knows of the 5-5 (thus bad breaks) as well as our pass over 3 so he wouldn't go too crazy.
