Scoring: IMP

PASS (PASS) 1 (PASS)
1NT (2) PASS (PASS)
PASS

I wasn't that impressed with my partner never raising spades. His best excuse is that we were playing 4-card majors. But still ...

Nevertheless the play was interesting:

A 2 5 3
T Q K 2
4 Q A 3
3 5 T Q
9 J 4 2
4 8 9 10
8 7 9 J
J 5 A 2
6 Q K A
6 7 6 4

Leaving this ending:

Scoring: IMP

PASS (PASS) 1 (PASS)
1NT (2) PASS (PASS)
PASS

Declarer advanced the 3 and I ruffed ace.

In order to lead the 8. Declarer feel from grace (probably playing a different game in which her play was irrelevant) and won the king.

Leaving me with the 7

Appart from the type in the first trick, well done.

You avoided being endplayed in the end, wich of course carries style points as well.

There is some dispute about that and I need as many beers as I can get

I guess you need to give declarer 1/2 of a beer anyway :)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Certainly no beer from me in a diamond contract.

....Not even on defence?

I think I would order my partner a beer for this play.
Kind Regards

Nope, no beers when diamonds are trumps. On defence beers are doubled but unfortunately 2*0 = 0.

I'm a purist.
I think beers only apply when the defence take the last trick with the D7 in a trump contract with diamonds not trumps.

The beer card is originally a Danish custom, actually from the club I play in: Studenterforeningens Bridge Club (The college Students associations Bridge Club.)

In it's original form, you'd get a beer, whenever you took the last trick on the 7, in any contract, both as defender and as declarer. One strict requirement was, that it hadn't cost a trick, not even an unimportent overtrick.

Edit: The beer is on partner, not opponents.

I think it applies only if you successfully exit with 7 at trick 12 playing No Last Two.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
