either 3NT or 4 could be right. Basically looks like a blind guess to me. Maybe Justin and Helene could enumerate why their choice is better than the other.

I'll go with 4. I'd require an extra stopper for 3NT, or the chance for a hold up play.

4. For me, there's not enough in to unilaterally decide on 3NT.

4 rates to be the safest contract, but I have enough to insist on game opposite a partner who reopens over 3, and committing to 5 is too much. Besides, often there will be little difference in the play of 4 of either red suit, so we may as well be in the higher scoring contract. Of course, when we are wrong, they are more prone to double 4than 4...tho I will stay stuck if that happens.

Partner will not always hold 4 but he will hold 4 more often than he will provide a second stopper in spades, where he rates to hold about 1.4 cards (not all opps will raise 3 simply because they hold 3 card support...they need a reason not to expect to go for 500-800).

So 4 it has to be, with no assurance that it will be the best spot opposite partner's hand.
