I thought these matches are very well played.....really some of the very best bridge I have seen or read about. Well done to all in this year's Spingold field.

The final 8 were superb.....the final 4 somehow seem even better.

It probably helps that the turn out was so low. More chance of the good teams advancing, and more importantly, one less day to get tired. I.e., today was the semi-finals instead of the quarter-finals.

I don't think this is true, there are basically the same amount of top teams in the event (eg all of the top 30ish seeds are probably roughly equivalent, and I don't think that many teams at all who would be that seed are missing). There are just less very weak teams than usual who would have no chance of winning a match. I think the mini-spin is a very good event for this reason.

Agree that 1 day less means less fatigue though, and that's important.
