AFAIHU it is about findings on Earth and their consequences for the way ET life is to be detected. I don't think they will talk about actual ET life findings.

It's a new type of life on Earth surviving in a horribly toxic environment (toxic for us). Finding life in such an environment allows for more places on other planets for life, hence the link to astrobiology.

Well, to be fair and balanced, I would add that the Dems would probable pass a tax on Martians if it was introduced.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

If by martians you mean humans born on Mars...I expect them to be very very rich from mining...so earth will tax martians ...alot...."to be fair"

side note....some are saying we should send astros on one way mission to mars...to live ...etc.........makes sense.

of a microbe in Lake Mono CA

"...which lives with levels of arsenic in its biology that were hitherto

I do not think NASA should be budgeted to search for new life forms
on Earth. It has plenty of work to do making sure its next Mars Rover
doesn't roll over or get stuck in some sand dune, and there are plenty
of Earth-bound biologists and biology departments who can perform
such work as NASA is now conducting at Mono Lake.

Unfortunately so many people are in love with the notion of Martian
and other bugs, shrubs, ETs, Little Green Men, etc etc etc that NASA
sees an opportunity for PR tease and hype, with consequent budgetary
support. Well, I am all in favor of the hard science of space exploration,
but I have a serious aversion to tease and hype, and I hope this source
of tease and hype at Mono Lake gets the plug pulled on it if Congress
ever goes on a real budget-cutting spree.

Absolutely. Also, they must purchase health insurance.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin has just announced that she has always been able to see Mars very well from her back porch, and this experience will be highly useful during her presidency.

Strangely, MASA (Martian version of Nasa) has announced today a similar finding, namely that it appears that life is possible even if that life survives on a diet of tweenkies, Ale 8-1, and big macs. This announcement shocked M-Span audiences until it was explained that intelligent life is not possible on that diet, however.
