Is it common to open the 6-card diamond suit instead of the 5-card spade suit? It seems like it would be too easy to then be unable to show the spades adequately (as happened here).
The 3♠ description includes "3S", not "3+S". Is that a typo?
At 5 tables, this was the auction up through the 3♠ bid.
- 3 of the 5 Souths chose to bid 3NT next, despite not having a club stopper. North let them play there, down 3.
- I chose 4♦, despite the fact that the description included "32-HCP; 17+ total points" because the other choices were worse.
- 1 South bid 5♦, even though the description includes "21+ total points". North raise him to 6♦, down 1.
The description of 5♦ also includes "3- 8421 HCP in C" (lack of a club stopper), whereas the description of 4♦ does not. Shouldn't the 4♦ description include that?
If 3♣ shows 13+ total points, why does 4♦ require anything more than that? Isn't this a normal sequence with Axx, KQxx, Axx, xxxx ?
At 3 tables, the auction was
3NT shows 14-19HCP; likely stop in C. 4♠ is again explained as "3S" not "3+S". )
The only pair to reach 4♠ did it this way:
2NT shows 11-13HCP; no mention of clubs in the description. The descriptions of both 3♠ and 4♠ include "3S", although the description of 4♠ includes "2 stops in S".
