I don't know if this is intended or not, but it does seem to be happening to me a lot while playing in random hands tourneies:
I play safely in the money/points, the others near me seem to be sitting on their scores for about 5-6 minutes, and all of the sudden, it shows that several of what seem to be score sitters have just bid and made a vulnerable game or even a slam! Now, instead of being right there, I'm the value of a slam down! I would expect if there were sitting on a score for several minutes that if they were to play on, at least in random hands, they'd be taking at least some sort of minus score (most likely something like their GIB opponents making a game).
Now, I know that if I was playing and was about to make a slam or vulnerable or doubled game (or likely to do so), or a large penalty against the opponents, I would be playing that thing AFAP! And, if I just made a slam and the opponents are about to make a vulnerable game the next hand, I could always sit there still being ahead. So, it there any tactnical strategy for sitting on such a hand for a while then playing on just to make them thing their score is safe when it's not? Or, would you play it like me: AFAP to make sure you get that hand and any similar hands in the next hands in to attempt to maximize your score?
I also know that sometimes in Random Hands, even being slightly in the Minus's can still get you in the points and a score of around +1000 (or possibly even lower) will win the whole thing while other times even a score like +2000 (or possibly even higher) isn't good enough to even make the money and points.
So, what is the best strategy when you are about to score a big plus score in Random Hands?
Thanks!
