I thought Yellow groups were some sort of tournament aides but now I saw a post on GIB issues forum and so they check GIB issues too and do what?

They do many, many things, any sort of help or advice you need.
It may be easier to answer what they DONT do

BBO Yellows do many things.
If they are in BBO, think of them more like hosts that will guide you around, try to answer your questions.
If you see them in BBF, they may be answering questions (like yours truly!), just hanging, or in Babela's case, she has undertaken to do a first level check of the many GIB posts to see if that can help Uday and developer team prioritize bug fixes, which is why you see all those "checked" posts by her.
