Why doesn't NorthGIB just bid 2 over 2? Is the explanation provided for the 3 bid standard? (Even if it is, it doesn't match the hand North holds.) I learned it much differently 30 years ago, but a lot has changed in 30 years...

I think the standard meaning for 3 is 6+ but not strong enough to bid 2, which would be a 1-round force. 4 is crazy.

I had an auction like this a few days ago (GIB opening): 1-2-2-3-3-3NT-4. GIB just had an ordinary 6-card spade suit -- it had already shown this with its 3 bid. I had 7 clubs to AKQ, and a spade void. 3NT would have made easily.
