All vul, matchpoints.

West's pass is "nothing to say", double would've been a suggestion to penalize. I deliberated between 2NT and X (also penalty suggestion). What's your call?

Spoilering partner's hand and the result. This is from memory so I don't remember partner's spots

Can you elaborate why? Is it close?

I don't think you should double them on the 2-level with only 3 trumps in a GF auction. It doesn't pay off. This particular 2 bid was hardly a good one and your double still didn't work out very well (of course one hand doesn't prove anything, but in this case it's spot on in my opinion).
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Yes it is close.
I bid 2NT mainly because it seems quite natural to do so. Partner will have another shot to describe his hand and we should be fairly well placed to decide btw 4 and 3NT.
I think partner will be more constrained if I X, he may well pass thinking I have tricks and short .
The downside is obvious though, 2 goes down and nuthin makes.

opps came into our game force vulnerable. I'm sitting under LHO's spades with QJx and soft values. No way I'm axing this. 2N looks about right as long as it's natural.

Qs are notrumpy cards and defensive value is lower than offensive value here.

2N

LHO stuck his neck out and unfortunately we aren't in a position to profitably to saw it off.

However, now I am pleased that LHO did overcall. If he did not, we would be rebidding 2N over a likely 2 rebid and we might get to a marginal 3N with a spade certainly hitting the table.

By rebidding 2N instead of doubling, I should be conveying that I do not have great spades, but merely a spade stopper. Partner should be encouraged to search for alternate strains. So on the actual hand, I suppose the auction would continue..3 - 3 - ? Partner with the 5-5 may opt for the 5-2 which looks like it should skate home with careful play unless we get an unlikely diamond lead.

As a matter of fact, the play in 4 is pretty interesting, both from declarer's as well as the defense's perspective.

2NT.

I am the member of our partnership with a spade stopper, so if we belong in notrump I am the one who has to suggest it.

Doubling with QJx of spades is too aggressive for me. Now, if I had QJTx, I might double.

I would double if partner's "nothing to say" indicates some spade length without a stopper, no side suit, no extra heart length, no diamond fit etc. Opposite that sort of hand, what are our chances of making game? QJx is not great - we can't hold up after a low spade from AKxxx. We'll probably just go down in 3NT and we don't have an obvious fit elsewhere.

Obviously if it can mean the stiff ace of spades and a 5-card side suit then this won't work out so well.

Something to say would be: a spade stopper, extra strength, a good four-card side-suit, etc. If I were in his seat I'd bid 3 over 2, but it's possible he thought I might have a spade stack and would want to penalize.

X - given your spade hiolding, and since you are min for the GF,
try go for blood.

This is easier playing IMP.
