ST. LOUIS — In the history of baseball, there have been a small collection of World Series games identified solely by the moniker “Game 6.” The most memorable, perhaps, are the sixth games of the 1986 and the 1975 World Series.

But after what unfolded in most dramatic fashion late Thursday night, a new Game 6 was added to the list.

The triple in the 9th was a highlight we will see over and over, especially if they win.

The homer in the 11th was more a function of a 3rd string pitcher.

.. and of an up and coming star breaking out. I got a kick out of him spiking his helmet between his legs coming home.

Does anyone else think the triple was catchable? Tough play but there are quite a few outfielders who could make it I think.

Yeah it looked like the sort of tough play that still gets made 80+% of the time. On a normal game if it is caught it likely isn't even a web gem.

The triple was pretty special.

Yeah. Maybe someone will do this for the 9th inning:

Cruz didn't look like he had any kind of jump on the ball even though he was playing deep. I think most MLB right fielders would make the play, but not always. It was pretty cold in St. Louis last night too so he might have stiffened up in the outfield - I'm just guessing.

My son was at the game and said he felt like he was on a roller coaster. Too bad about some of the sloppiness, but pulling the game out twice with only one strike left is plain amazing.

Really, I don't even think the play is 100% on Cruz.

Quick manager's quiz: up two runs going into the bottom of the ninth, what do you do? Answer: put in defensive replacements. Washington didn't - why not? Cruz is known to be a poor outfielder. On the other hand, if he had put one in, it might have been for Hamilton who was mildly injured. Still, he does have two outfielders on the bench, he could even replace both. Anyway a case can be made that Cruz should not have been out there.

So the Cards took the series -- congrats to the St. Louis fans. Only right, since they took down my Braves at the end of the regular season. But Texas is good too: came about as close as possible to winning without quite doing so.
