My answer might vary, though, if I know the tendency of the room to look for a 5-card major, or how many have it available. I do not want to do something grossly anti-field, because my partner also plays 'em well.

Unluckily this time partner holds AKTxx,xx, Ax,AKQx and 7 club is on and anybody else in 6 Spade. Bridge sucks.
Sometimes even 13 cards produce 13 tricks... ty Wyman.

easy to make 13 tricks with 14 cards
(edit: not to mention even though i have a propensity to open off-shape 2N, I wouldn't do so with all my strength concentrated in my 2 suits as above)

I'll assume 5224. If 4234 then auction very different! 1c-1nt 3nt all pass!
That hand doesn't look like a 2nt hand to me. It's got a 2 good suits and xx & Ax in the others. Looks like a suit based hand to me, why open 2nt?
I'm happy to open that 1♠ and take the risk of it being passed in (in which case 2nt is probably being passed in too) so as to be able to investigate a better spot. Reckon I'm in 6♠ but maybe it goes -
1♠ 2nt* (10-12fit or 16+ fit)
3♣ (LST opp 10-12) 4♣ (4card ♣ support forcing to 4♠)
4nt (key card spades) 5♦ (whichever shows 1, I use 0314)
5♥ (Q♠ ask) 6♥ (Q♠+K♥)
7♣ to play!

Not saying that it is better this way or another but i am lately watching some top pairs in BBO in pdship bidding table. Ones that i watched was practicing on big hands where opener has either 2 NT or reverse hands. One thing that i found very interesting they all seemed to open all 20-21 hcp 5422 hands at 1 level. Especially Ira Chorush.
And i asked myself what would happen if it was me, since i would open 2 NT, answer was i would probably miss most of the slams they landed masterfully. Although i have to admit most of those hands were 5 minor and 4 major so reverse was pretty easy and didnt need jump shift by opener. I dont remember exactly now if they opened this with also 5M and 4m.
I have a feeling when playing with a pick up pd, people open 2 NT more often than their regular pds to avoid the possible misunderstandings in subsequent bids of a reverse auction.

it's called the slam killer for a reason. why would you want to kill your slam prospects when you've got half the deck, a 5 card suit and a 4 card suit? it's obviously not because you want to pre-empt the opps out of anything.

1♠-2♣(10+)
2N(GF not necessarily bal)-3N(min 3334)
4♣-4♥
4♠-5♣(4N would be a spade cue)
5♦-5♥
5N(anything else)-6♠(Q, already denied AK and shortage)
7♣

1♣ = 15+ nat/bal or 18+ any
... - 1♠ = no 4+ card major, GF
1NT = relay, usually 18+
... - 2♥ = balanced
2♠ = relay
... - 3♥ = 3=3=3=4
4♣ = puppet to 4♦
... - 4♦
4NT = RKCB for spades
... - 5♣ = 1 or 4
5♦ = ♠Q?
... - 5♥ = yes, and ♥K
7♣
Choosing the 4♣ route is not without risk (xxx/QJx/KQJ/Jxxx) but the alternative of relaying is unattractive with AK in the first 2 relay suits. I join the ranks of those criticising the 2NT opening and if partner responded 1♦ would rebid 2♠ (natural Strong 2) rather than 2NT.

These same reasons do not apply to a 2N opening.
