I'd lead a heart at IMPs. Our black-suit holdings suggest that declarer has enough tricks if we leave him to his own devices. The way to beat 3NT is to lead somebody's five-card suit.

I'd lead a club at matchpoints. If we're leading a black suit, a club is better than a spade. Declarer may not have four clubs, and if he does we're just taking finesses that he would have done for himself, or it may build a trick for us anyway. For example, the suit might be Qx - KJx - A10xx around the table.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
