What's 5♦ and 4NT in this sequence mean? It could be a better choice if I know the exact meaning of these two bids.

I would start with 5d unless that is
clearly exclusion blackwood.

If p bids 6c I bid 7c
over 5h/s I bid 7 of suit
over 6h/s I bid 7 of suit
over 5n (p is unsure what to do) I bid 7s
if p bids 6n I will leave it there and hope
7 doesn't make.

there are times this wont work but the vast majority
of the time I would expect excellent results.

Preempts work :)

I'm too chicken to just guess to bid a grand. So I will guess 6♠. Even if a grand is good single-dummy, a big preempt like that means bad breaks.
"What's the big rebid problem? After 1♦ - 1♠, I can rebid 1NT, 2♠, or 2♦."

I want to bid 6♦ but will start with 5NT choice of slam first so partner gets the message that my grand try is two suited rather than one suited. If partner chooses clubs over 5NT and hearts over 6♦ then I will bid 6♠ and give him a chance to get out if he has something like Jxx Axx Kx KQxxx.

Many took this path .... and made 6S+1

Partner held:

Two Responders made a Neg-DBL ( probably not a wise choice ):
One Opener passed ....for a near zero score ( 4DX-2 ).
The other bid 4S ... 4NT by Responder ( not the best with a ♦-void ) but ended in 7S for a top.

I think 5♦ is the obvious start - we have both majors and first round diamond control with grand interest. If partner bid 5♥ over this then we can settle for 5NT which seems like a pretty good description. If, as here, partner bids 5♠ then 6♦ seems like a clear-cut grand try missing something outside diamonds. With ♥A and ♣K, Opener has an obvious accept.

IMO 5♦ clearly sets up clubs as trumps unless you play 4NT for that. 6♦ and raise spades (but not hearts) looks better.
