Not only do we have a fit, we also have a lot of losers. Pass.

4. Good to let partner know we have a fit. Also, I assume that since we open crap like this that our invitations are fairly solid.

I wasn't sure either. I bid 4D, which went pass pass double again by RHO.

Assuming you pass this, LHO bids 4H, passed back to you.

I don't seem to be on lead, so what's the question?

3D is an invitational jump shift and I'm looking at AKTx and a void in clubs? Nice, I will bid 5D over RHO's double - I'm expecting to make this, and I wouldn't be surprised if it makes an overtrick!

I thought invitational jumps shifts required a good suit.
Anyway, I'll bid 5, put up the pressure at a presumably low cost.

My hand just got way better over 4H, presumably partner now has heart shortage. 5. Maybe I can even buy it doubled over such an awkward sequence.

I wonder if I'm looking at the same cards as everyone else. How can we pass 3? Sure, game may go down, but we could be cold for slam...not that I'm going slam hunting.

Why tell the opps anything...bid 5 NOW.

x AQx QJxxxx xxx isn't invitational to me and played from partner's side, we rate to have an easy 11 tricks on most layouts and decent play for 12.

Yes, I know x xxx QJxxxx AQx is another story, but my point is that passing requires pessimism beyond even what I usually have at the table.

And for those who pass when the opps bid 4, my head may not explode, but it sure hurts. I still wouldn't bid slam but I can't for the life of me understand pass. I'd redouble 5, even tho it may possibly go one off. I think the odds are definitely in favour of 11 tricks.

Thank you last group of posters. My head was also going to explode that people didn't just consider this a ridiculously obvious 5 bid. Glad to see the world has a little bit of sanity left.

you have a 6 loser hand(avg opening is 7). however you dont have much for your opening. I'd be worried 4 makes
so bid 5 maybe it makes or not but its not getting killed

Agree completely. Besides both hands arent even close to invitational for me, stiff in partner suits is really bad and the diamonds are not great either. I would expect partner to have an 11 count with 6 diamonds if he has a stiff. And he cant harly have more than 2s unless oponents are complete lunatics and want to play in a 6 card fit rather than in their 10 card fit. About the worst he can have is xx Kx QJxxxx KJx where we could go 2 down but give partner as little as Kx x QJxxxx xxxx and 5 is laydown.

Even 6D was making. We managed to beat 4H a trick, but that was poor compensation.
