I know there's another topic about a 5-0-0-8, so this one is just slightly less impressive...

IMPs

Now what?

At my table South bid 4 (undiscussed), fetched a 4 response and East came back in with 5(!)... then?

I don't like the original double much I prefer a straight out bid of either 5 or 6 but I'm still new to the game so I'm probably wrong :P

in the original diagram I probably bid 5

in the at the table section well it depends is p showing strength or shortage or what in spades lol :)

The first x is so bad it is rather funny. Just bid 5D.

So what. An 8 card suit is called trumps.

You don't fancy looking for 6 facing Qxxxx/xxx/x/xxxx? Even if partner has a doubleton diamond, a 3-0 split can kill 6.

I was thinking Q10xxx, xxx, void, xxxxx

I'd have overcalled a simple 1.

That hand does have much less risk of an immediate diamond ruff as well.
