Hi,
obviously there seems to be a bug in the Kindle App. Upland 9 posted exactly the same issue on March 28, I can't comment on his thread thus I'm opening a new one. The problem is that the icons for spades hearts etc. are missing in the bidding popup, making it impossible to bid. Just as Upland I have tried uninstalling, closing down and taking the kindle back to factory reset - nothing works.
Would be great to get some help, this is very frustrating to be honest.
Thanks!

Apparently this bug started happening after the most recent update of the Kindle operating system - it didn't used to be a problem.
The BBO app uses the default system font in order to draw suit symbols. I assume that this font was changed in the recent Kindle update and that is the reason why the suit symbols no longer appear.
It *might* be possible for me to do something about this in the next version of the BBO app, but it is hard for me to make any promises in terms of if/when this rates to happen.
Sorry about the inconvenience, but hopefully you can appreciate from the above that this new bug was an unexpected surprise for us courtesy of Amazon.

I can confirm that it's the update that triggers this. I just got a Kindle HD a few days ago, and was able to use the app when I first started it up. Then the OS updated itself, and now the suit symbols are gone.

I am testing a fix for this bug. If all goes well then hopefully a new version will be made available within the next week or so (plus however long it takes Amazon to approve the new version - likely a few days).

I initially experienced the issue on 3/28 mid afternoon. I have Kindle HD and my wife smaller older version, but same problem. I will not show suit icons in bidding menu, and not will not show symbols. I have also called and emailed Amazon. They say it is a developer issue, and are waiting for that update. Amazon says developer is working on the issue and might be as much as a week before fix is tested. What is interesting is the chat box previous to this issue was also a problem. I could not completely delete a post if I misspelled or wanted to change a comment. I could delete the entire message, but had problems editing the text.

Fred
Is there any update on the repaired application? Has it been tested and in Amazon's hands?

Wow it really reminds me of the early 90s, when we got all these different interfaces (Windows, BeOS, Geox, ...)
I feel bad for the programmers having to keep up with all that.

It's not nearly as hard, though. Current-generation languages like Javascript and Flash, along with frameworks like jQuery and MooTools, hide at least 95% of the differences between operating systems and browsers. Contrast this with Mac vs. Window applications, which are usually completely different applications (versions of MS Office for the two environments come out on completely different schedules, and have different features); if you try to share the same underlying code, you often end up with an application that doesn't follow one of the environment's UI conventions.
It's still hard to use the same application on both desktop/laptop and mobile devices, because limited screen space of the latter requires major redesign.
