Imps vs good opps.

1D is unbalanced, 3C show 5-5.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

And they're not just "4 trumps". They're four trumps headed by the 10 and 9, which means that you can ruff clubs high.

It's a great hand, isn't it. Wonder why you do not invite slam.

It's not a great hand, but it's a reasonable hand opposite what partner should have for his vulnerable 3, and given that the opponents didn't try for game. Suppose partner has Ax x AKxxx KQxxx. That's about the worst we can expect, but with trumps 2-2 we will make 4. And trumps will often be 2-2, because if diamonds were 3-1 the opponents would already be in game.

Pass. I think too risky partner is sticking neck out pushing 3 over 2, to get a good sac or partial, and this is not the sac. It might be the partial, but then again they might use my push to picture a game they could not earlier.

Yeah, my 3D was an "I like" preference.
But, this is a 4342 balanced hand - no surprise tricks for partner.
No honor stuff and bal => this is a pass.
My optimistic guess is 4D is close; their 4H is also close; I quit.

I was doing a recap of hands where me and my partner disagree. Its often hand where Im vulnerable & I compete further with no defense or no pts. My guess is that maybe I rely too much on opps bidding and simply hate to sell out when I have very little chance of getting a plus score defending and think they wont be able to double me especially when they could make cheap game try but choose not to. But partner seems to think that when im VUL I should always have a little something to avoid pushing them to game. IMO competing when you know you wont get double and know you wont defeat the contract is like freerolling for a plus score if partner got the goods.

The hand Ive just posted had a 95%-pass and 5% for 4D on BW yet I still think 4D is better than pass (really a sign that im stubborn). I was fairly confident that D where 2-2 since they were agressive game bidder.

bidding problem 1963 on BW

http://www.bridgebas...ittle-else-vul/

This one I regret a little bit but I dont think 4C is that bad. He could make a cheap game try but simply bid 3S.

Another one I had 5530 and 0 pts and bid game vs a 18-19 balanced because opps bid and raise clubs to the 3 level despite being vul.

If you do have example of competing with little or no value I would like to get the links thanks.

If you want more people to vote 4, you need we(non-vul) and they(vul).

Do the opponents have an understanding about the X of 3? It might be a maximal overcall X, but it seems odd considering that 3 is available.

Regardless, it seems prudent to Pass at this vulnerability. 4 might work on some layouts, but there's a real risk of pushing them into 4, making.
