natural, invitational. 2 was natural as well. If you want to cuebid, use hearts.

Thanks. I knew 2S was natural but I assume pd meant 3S as a "transfer to 3N". We missed our 6-4 diamond fit for our 5-1 spade fit. Made me wonder though what the difference between rdbl and 3S would be.

Isn't the order of bidding as follows:
( W ) - N - ( E ) - S
( 1) - X - ( 1) - p
( p ) - ??

Why would you bid 2 ( as natural ) with the Spade bidder BEHIND you ?

2 should be natural and 2! as the cuebid .

EDIT : RE. a psyche in this situation :
If partner ( the 2D bidder ) had 4 cards , he would DBL instead ;
if he had 5+ he would bid 2S .

No. The order was 1H dbl 1S 2D P 2S dbl 3S. Partner responded diamonds to my takeout double. I also believe that my 2S bid is natural. If I'd had hearts I would have passed 1H, but we can't let them talk us out of spades when I have a hand that could be big enough to double and then show spades.

Sorry I missed the double on 2. It's a weird auction.

He meant it as penalty. It should be penalty when I'm bidding his suit.

Why wouldn't I if I had a 2S bid? I tend to look at the cards in my hand rather than trust the opponents.

You are right about .. If you had , you would not have DBLed 1H .

I agree it is a strange auction .
Why would partner raise your 2SX to 3S ? ( if the DOUBLE is for penalty ).
