Playing matchpoints you have to choose how to bid in the following situation. You dont have any special tools, only common sense.

Better hope you get past 3♠x if partner has say AK10x, x, xxx, J109xx

Agree with the doublers. Even if you play non-leaping Michaels, this hand really isn't "big" enough to do it.
That leaves an imperfect Double, which truly might be left in. Oh, well. Sometimes you don't have the perfect action for partner's perfect magic hand.

IMO, X = 10, 4♣ (natural) = 7, 4♥ = 3

Partner will not pull the double, and we will have to settle for 800. If Partner pulls to 4C, it would not be with that hand, and even if she does, I am not going to blast slam. She won't get overjoyed with my 4S Cue, either.

Looks a normal non minimum for non leaping Michaels to me. After all double essentially forces to game if partner doesn't pass so might as well make a more descriptive bid.
Nevertheless double has some advantages - keeping diamonds in the picture, for example.

double and if partner bids hearts I like my chances in 6♥ opposite a 4333 yarborough, so I will investigate grand slam. Non leaping michaels on the other side helps you little towards slam.

I tend to take a rosier view than most people to this type of hand, and sometimes I come unstuck. I'd probably bid 4♠ (which will always include hearts, but the precise hand type is unknown), so on Lord Molyb's example I'll get a 6♥ response.
