You might or might not like my double but I did it. Partner's 1NT was natural.
Here is the question, and I think it comes up fairly often. Can I still bid 2♦ over pard's 1NT w/o showing extra values? I did bid 2♦, partner did pass, and 2♦ makes 2 (I made 3 on a defensive error) while 1NT is easily off 1.
Here is the general question: In a competitive auction where I have doubled and partner has made a natural and limited response of 1NT, it seems to me that a pull to 2 of a suit ought to be pretty much as this is: Pard, I am glad that you have some values and a somewhat flat hand, under those circumstances I think 2 of a suit is a better choice.
This has always seemed right to me and, happily, it seemed right to my partner in this case. But other partners have thought differently. Your views?
If you think I am a little light for my initial double I won't quarrel, but I want to address the general question.
As it happens on this hand, they can easily make 2♥ in their 5-2 fit via four hearts and four clubs. 1 NT our way goes down when they take three hearts and four clubs. Not much of interest in the play.
