hmmm... NV huh? I'll pass. If pard can't find a bid over this, we shd have nothing.

Bidding is not very risky though.. LHO, who is a passed hand, can hardly dbl anything we bid.

Anybody else care to post on this? I will put up the full hands tomorrow and why I found this "interesting".

I will take my chances with a negative double. I would hate to pass and then have partner pass with a minimum like KJxx x KQxxxx Kx.

IMO 3 = 10, Pass = 9, Double = 8. No strong feelings.

The oriblem with pass is partner may pass, the problem with dbl is you are comitted to a 4 level contract. Partner may bid 4C or D and then you are a very unhappy camper, after all he could easily have 3S or KJ alone. I'll risk the overbid of 3S and prepare to explain my stupidity later.

Added partner's choice and my hand.

This is hardly a horrible hand but it is MP so there is no
strong reason to stretch too much for game. That means I
will choose

Pass

on this hand. However I have a certain admiration for 4s bidders since
4s rates to be our best shot at game and any action other than pass will
get us to the 4 level anyway. I do not like 3s since it may all too
easily convince our strong but aceless p to pursue slam and we are down
at the 5 level.

pass = 9 4s = 7 dbl = 5 3s = 3

At least a 4s bid will deny much overall power.

I'm looking at AJ of hearts, a red v white preemptor and I'm supposed to be worried partner will convert for penalties?

I'd be very worried that partner will bid 4minor, but not that he'll pass, and if he passes, they haven't made it yet.

The real problem with doubling is that we won't find our 6-2 spade fit and may not find our 6-3 fit, tho partner is allowed to choose 3 on a 3 card suit on occasion.

I haven't looked at the spoiler yet. And I doubt that it will show the hand type on which a 3 card suit can be bid, but imagine AJx xx KQxx Kxxx.

I'd support a 3 call ahead of any other option, altho 4 would be a second choice and pass a distant 3rd.

If he has Ax xxx AQxx Kxxx as an example, that is a possible pass, but there is an excellent chance of going plus here.

lol at the actual hand.

Wild horses couldn't keep me from the 5 level as opener on the given auction, and this is a very strong strike against 3, albeit a problem that won't arise that often given our heart holding.

My first impression was to pass 3, and it would make things very easy.
