too good for 2nt but note that both 6h and 6c are down so.....I expect some to miss out on 6nt.

I put some blame on North. That hand is worth 24 points, even at NT (Goren would have upgraded that to 23 for sure).
I can't really blame South too much, West was a nutjob and they lucked out in finding a good landing spot.

Presumably 3♥ over the X would show 3, with KJ I might be inclined to do that, but I'd also echo that this is not a 2N opener, it's too good.

I think the problem is less that the hand is too strong for 2NT, but that 2NT is a misbid.

The problem is to look for a bidding to 6NT : opening 2♣ (and applying Reese convention yet ) is easy to get 6 ♥ or ♣.

I wouldn't have opened 2NT (too strong, too offshape), but that's probably not the only reason for missing out on 6NT.
