- RHO opens multi 2 (a 6cM and weak OR a GF hand); and explained that in 3th hand 'everything' is possible
- You play Multi over Multi with following options:
- - DBL=a 5-card Major with a least opening strength OR 19-22 HCP
- - 2=Transfer Clubs (Advancer will bid 2NT with a possitive hand; else he bids 3
- - 2=15-18 NT
- - 4 or 4=Leaping Michaels
- - Pass, followed by a DBL of 2 is TO
=> Do you agree with starting to transfer to ?
- LHO bid 3: pass or correct (Normally 3c and longer 's; but these opps like to bid)
=> Do you continue over 3NT?

your methods seems strange.. playing those I would probably pass and let RHO show his suit before butting-in.

But anyway, having shown clubs I think I would now continue the hand description and bid 4. With trepidation.

I bid 4 now showing clubs + spades. If LHO has only 3 for his 3 bid then we probably have a large fit.

I suppose the goal of your methods is to maximize your sticks and wheels opportunities? It seems like "no agreement" would be a vastly superior method. :P

No. Pass and double 2 for takeout.

Sure. The hand is strong enough.

This is exactly the reason why I play immediate 2 = takeout of hearts. (Well, that and the fact that 2 could get passed out.)

I quite like this Collins defense variant:

(2) ..??

Dbl = take-out of spades or any 18+
2 = take-out of hearts
2 = natural 12-17

Best compromise solution: take-outs for both H/S and a natural S overcall. With a heart overcall you'll have to dbl and fake a take-out of spades (which isn't a long stretch anyway).

I play the same and don't like your methods at all.

That said, partner didn't angle to double them in hearts (softish heart stoppers?) so I'm bidding 4 and if the auction doesn't die 6 is next.

Thanks for the answers.
I passed on 3NT. East did start a small Heart for Wests King, but EW 'blocked' the hearts when East returned 2 (to show K) in trick 4.
- I agree that it is best in my methods to start with a Pass and DBL for TO the next round.
- And I also agree that pass after 3NT isn't good

I've played OPs method for a few hundred hands, it's not as bad as all the posters suggest. I've gotten to penalize 2M with a 2M overcall a couple of times and the light 3m bids have found good saves and caused the opponents to miss their fit.

On this hand, I don't like the 2S bid on the first round on a weak 5c suit. Even though it might be ambiguous, I prefer to start with a double on the first round (planning to double hearts again on the next round).

I agree that initial 2S is not best.
But a DBL in the first round would show a 5cM. Isn't it therefore better to start with a pass and DBL for TO in the 2nd round?
