Where are you going? What's wrong with 3N?

I don't know why South's bids didn't get explanations; this was not my table. At other tables, including mine, 2N is properly explained as invitation to 3N; 17-18 HCP.

My point is not to ask about the unexplained bids; I just mentioned it because it was there. My point is to ask why North bid 4 when 3N looked like a perfectly good place to play. Maybe the fact that South failed to complete the transfer completely freaked out North; I don't think North could have thought it was a Superaccept, because South probably doesn't rebid 2N with 5-4 majors.

4 should have a extreme distributional hand with concentration of values in it's long suit. Not a 4-card suit with crappy . As a passed hand I can't see Gib having such a hand or it should respond 2 but Gib rarely makes a 2 bid but that's a different story.
Sarcasm is a state of mind

I was imagining -, Kxxxxx, x, Kxxxxx. The actual North should be happy to be in 3N.
