3H seems completely normal to me. 4H is too much and there is no reason to pass.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

3♥ seems reasonable.

The problem with 2♥ is that partner will assume that you have the values for a 2♥ call, which you do not.

The problem with 4♥ is that you may be a rational human being, and 4♥ would make that assumption an overbid (with all due respect to those posters who consider 4♥ to be a rational choice).

At least 3♥ is defined as weak with long hearts. Whatever else you have to say about this hand, it is weak and it contains 5 hearts.

I have some sympathy for pass, because I really dislike takiing a bid on these cards.

As for what actually happened, it appears that you were experiencing Kobayashi Maru syndrome. There is no right answer, only a number of wrong answers. Maybe you could have survived by passing or by bidding 2♥, but you would have felt dirty.

In my experiences, pass is a little too cute but you don't want to give opponents too much information about their possible fit - I bid 2H only as that could as easily be a 3-card raise and leaves doubt as to the size fit held by opps.

I'd rather psyche a 3NT bid than bidding 2♥ or pass. But 3♥ looks normal. 4♥ is ok too.
