Opps are playing 5cM weak NT. Admittedly 1H would not be everyone's choice, but having made that bed, how do you plan to lie in it?

Thanks,

2S wtp

We belong in spades. 2 on these cards after a simple overcall has nothing to be ashamed about unlike all the other options.

yes this really is a wtp 2s, I don't understand what other actions you are expecting us to consider?

Yeah 2S, though I think 2C/3S are worth considering.

Fair enough - 2S was chosen at the table - so perhaps the problem is more interesting from the other side.

Note our agreement is that a UCB promises 3-card or better support (we don't make the UCB with generic strong hands), hence 1S to start with. I guess the only viable call here is 3C - but that could get you rather high opposite a 7-count.

Hence I was thinking, East should bid 1NT or possibly 2C (is that still a UCB by 6th hand?) to get the extra strength across, at which point 3C-3NT is clear. But neither my partner nor I claim to be good at competitive bidding so I'd be grateful for more experienced players' opinions on the correct sequence here.

Thanks,

I dont play your style of ucb but given your card I would prefer to start with 2d rather than 1s and see what pard rebids.

Geez you guys like to bid your lousy suits :)

3 now. Partner will prefer NT with club values and only 3 cards.
Would have bid 2 instead of 1.

the problem is your forcing 1 spade. make that non-forcing and the 7 counts can pass

If I can't make a generic strength showing cue of 2 , I'm certainly not bidding a Jxxx suit even at the 1 level. I'm bidding 2 . Partner will have a chance to rebid 2 with a good hand and 4 . If opener bids 3 and partner passes (light overcall), we're likely to get off to the right defense instead of a possibly disastrous lead. Once you bid 1 , partner will almost always raise on 3 and everything gets muddled.

But to the actual auction, now that pard has raised, I'd now bid 3 . With the right cards maybe partner can find a 3 NT bid. If partner returns to , I sit and am prepared to apologize if it doesn't work out.
