hi manudude03,

On looking at this briefly, my inclination is to finesse the 9, I presume it loses, win the return with the ace, and run the 8 into the safe hand if West doesn't cover. If West covers 8 with J then I would presume he will have the K too.

I believe if West has KQ KJ and 3+ winners you are always going down. I feel honours need to be split between the two defenders hands for this to have any chance to succeed. The finesse is optional depending on what happens next.

If East wins the 8 he is prematurely end-played after trick 3.

Thanks for posting the full hand. The spoiler clarifies matters. Given the range of scores on the score sheet, it looks like quite a few players had a 'lot of options' :)
