Once, at 9am in the morning, me half asleep, in Schiphol Airport, a security guy stopped me sternly "sir, bazookas are not allowed as carry on luggage." when I was carrying one of these (he winked and started giggling after a second). Weirdo.

So passengers aren't allowed to joke about having a weapon, but it's OK for security guards? Unfair!

I think this thread is veering quickly into WC material.

I will, just not now! I'll be at a conference in New Orleans LA (any tips there BTW? I don't like jazz too much.) and will have a few days to spare after it so I thought what is close to Louisiana.

Give Jazz another chance. Hearing it live may give you a new perspective.

New Orleans tips collected on my Mardi Gras trip last year -

Music - Dueling pianos at Pat O'Briens, also Ticklers and Spririts on Bourbon street. Also, Frenchmen Street, about 3/4 mile northeast of the French Quarter, is a less touristy area filled with nightclubs with live music.

Food - Too many great places to name. Check out Yelp. One dish that more than met the hype was Death by Gumbo (stuffed quail) at Restaurant R'evolution.

Yelp is a nasty little protection racket masquerading as a social network

I heard it live a handful of times - sometimes I enjoy it but even then I feel a disconnect with the rest of the ecstatic crowd. Shrug. Sorry for turning this into a likes/dislikes of gwnn thread. Not even Water Cooler worthy. I'll stop.

We forgot to take pictures together, but here is one with me with two rockets.

Posted Image

We played two games, one of them I played pretty bad and MrAce played well and we got 65%, and one where we both played worse and got 49%. We were supposed to play yesterday too but we couldn't find teammates.

Thanks a lot Timo!! See you soon I hope.

On drinks: I had a lot of overpriced funny-sounding beers in NO (my favourite name was "Fancy Lawnmower") and begged restaurants to serve me vegetarian food. It worked quite well most of the time, except one waitress who said "Sir, I just told you it was vegetarian, not that there isn't any meat in there! If you had wanted the *veggie omelette* you could have asked for that instead." Anyway, cool people all around, and the biophysicsing went well too.

I know it sounds weird but it some places chicken counts as "vegetarian"! Try not to think too long about that!

Actually I was aware of that idea, but that wasn't the issue. The lady told me "Well sir it is listed as vegetarian on the menu so it is vegetarian." When I showed her the big chunks of turkey she said "it has vegetarian {sic} in it and meat in it. WTP?" When I asked her to get a dictionary, she got offended somehow. :o

I've been told before "there's no meat in it, just ham and cheese".
