Yesterday when I played Rubber Bridge, the following situation arose.
After pass-pass I offered 3 diamonds, my LHO got big eyes ... and offered 7NT !!!

This was his card:
AKQJ1098653
A
A
A

I can not remember a card where I had 12, 11 or even only 10 tricks from the start.

What were the best cards you've ever seen?

I was the lucky East on this hand

My link

10 top tricks with no help at all, partner's J and the clubs breaking 3-3 allowed me to take all 13 in my own hand.

Welcome to the forum, Geldmacher :)

Best I can do is 28HCPs balanced, as I remember. Think partner had a Yarborough opposite me :(

The biggest I've held is 10 solid, Ax, x I think.

The biggest in context are a 4 loser hand opposite a 2 opener (AKQJxxxx, KQJx, void, x opposite my x, A, Axxxxx, AKxxx) and a 25 count opposite a hand where partner opened and jump rebid, both of which ended with 7N= after 4 bids.

The funniest was partner holding a 27 count with AKQJxx in the suit I'd just opened a weak 2 in, 6= missed at the other table opposite not the finest 4 card weak 2.

void void AQJT9x AKQJTxx MP
I opened 6d hoping my unfamiliar partner might raise me to 7 with the dia k. Yes they had it and did not raise sigh:)

My friend and occasional partner, John Williams wrote up this hand, played at Chelmsford on 7th April 2014:

A Most Difficult Hand to Bid

Part score hands, games, slams, bidding over pre-empts - which are the most difficult hands to bid? For me none of these, it’s hands where one player holds about 30 HCPs in a balanced hand.

Such a hand was noted by Tom Townsend, the bridge correspondent of the Daily Telegraph in a recent article . A similar hand (above), containing 31 points, occurred at our table on Monday 7th April at Chelmsford Bridge club. Curiously Tom’s article appeared on the same day as the above 31 HCP hand was played. Both hands had been randomly computer dealt.

After three passes South opens with an Acol game forcing bid of 2♣ (or a Benjamin bid of 2♦). What to do next, after a negative response by North? 3♦, 3NT, 4NT, 5NT, 6NT are all possibilities but I see no sensible way of finding out about the three missing queens. Perhaps an opening bid of 4NT, 5NT or 6NT is the best guess?

All pairs, bar two, bid a slam , either going 2 off for -200 or three off for -300. Top was a pair making 3NT +3 (some feat) with the second top pair making +180 in a NT part score (also some feat in a strange way). At our table South bid 3♦, his only 4 card suit, after the negative response by North and we finished in 6♦-2. As he said, ‘at least the trumps broke nicely’.

AKQJxxxx - - AKJxx

I opened 7, partner turned up broke except 4 small clubs and Qx dropped.

Anyone fancy an Acol 1 or 1NT opening on this East hand? ;)

That's an interesting psyche at red ... :)

I was defending, holding the west cards on this deal. I led the Q against inexperienced opps who had stopped in 2NT after a misunderstanding. Declarer wasn't up to finding the elimination / end-play!

I picked this hand up in a Regional Tournament KO match on Saturday against a team of true experts:

AKQJxxx
K
KQJx
A

I opened a strong and forcing 2 and nearly fell off my chair when my partner made a positive 2 reply. It showed 5+ to 2 honors and at least 1 1/2 QTs.
After setting as trump and having partner raise, I jumped to the safer 7 NT when partner showed 2 As.. It was a push board as the score was +1520 N/S at both tables.

This has already been mentioned in another topic, but in the first weekend of the Camrose, North picked up
. No-one managed a plus score :P

He shouldn't get too excited, this is just as likely as any other hand :)
