IMPs (BBO team match). Nobody vul. Opps are I/A standard

System here for NS is weak NT, 5cM.

At the other table: 1C precision - 2C suction (D or H+S) - 3H long and weak - 4D p/c; 4H all pass (bidding shown here is for all 4 players).

4H made, 5H was down one, so lose 10. Any blame here or just unlucky system swing?

Thanks,

ahydra

What was the range on the suction bid ? Would 4 have also been p/c in the suction auction ? that would put NS under a lot more pressure.

I have a lot of sympathy for N bidding 5, but obviously allowing S to take the 300 works better.

What I say might sound insane but I would neg dbl as North instead of passing.

In this particular instance, it allows me to bid 3 after West's 3 and partner would know that my hand is not strong enough to force with a 2 response. As North, I would then have no qualms passing the 5 bid and allowing partner to decide.

Hi,

I may not have found the 3H bid, I would hve passed, they would have played a partial.
In other words a larger swing.
After the raise, 5H is reasonable, I am 7-5, void in their suit, it may even make.

With kind regards
Marlowe

The blame has to be on North, first for the initial decision to pass instead of a more descriptive bid (whether double, 3h or 4h) and then shutting out partner on 5th level when double, pass, or pulling partner's double could all be better options (depending on method).
