wife and I spend as much time analyzing played hands as we do playing. It would save us many hours if we didn't have to calculate each hand's point count in our evaluation. There seems to be plenty of space to display a little diamond in the green space around each hand.

True, but HCP is often the starting point, then you adjust for other features like shape and honor location. Consider things like the "Rule of 20" (HCP + length of 2 longest suits > 20 == opening hand).
It's very common for hand records to include HCP information, because it's simple to calculate objectively.
