What would be your choice of bid here

1S, 2S (Soloway), 6S/C (not seriously) as your first response bid

and then how to proceed after West makes a weak 4 diamond jump and you or partner proceed with slam

I counted up my losers and figured we had at least two slams on offer (sure enough)

Note Free meaningless bot matchpoints :)

I'm bidding 2!S

If partner rebids 2NT as expected I'll bid 3!C
(I'd really prefer Qxxx, but I'm willing to show support with 4 small

If partner raises Spades, I have an easy cue bid in Diamonds

Do you mean 3? There are a couple of ways to play Soloway but as I understood it, both versions use 3 as showing support but denying shortage (with new suits showing support and shortage, since they can no longer be natural).

But none of this is relevant when West bids 4, after which I guess I'm doubling.

Thanks.

I chose the Soloway then West bid 4D (preempt) and partner went for blackwood at that bidding sequence

If there isnt a pre-empt I will follow up with what North would likely bid (I will post the hand :)

Assuming partner starts Blackwood and gets to 6 spades would you then consider 7

EDIT Sorry. I forgot another question. After Blackwood would you just show your keycards or the void and commit to the next level
I don't like showing the void for a few reasons :)

I, too, would choose the Soloway jump shift and after reviewing would expect partner to relay with 2nt after which I would bid 3D to show short diamonds with a 4-card club fit and at least 5 spades.

I will have to read more to find out how to handle interference. 😊

Thanks. I have another hand where I (as I regularly do) managed to get into trouble with my Soloway rebid
But this one actually would have worked since I have support for clubs and a splinter

EDIT Just checking the traveller and those of us who chose 2S! were the minority

I had considered bidding 1S since a while back I was advised here that Soloway needed a very solid suit and I wasn't sure if AKJxxx was ok

There are three hand types where you can use Soloway:

a) single suited
b) strong balanced
c) support for partner

With b) and c) all you need is a good 5 card suit (eg 2 of top 3 honors) - along with slam interest, of course. It's only a) where you need a long, strong, suit.

But as usual, at this point in the auction, we've left the realm of real bridge and moved onto gaming the robots, since no human would bid 4NT without a clue of how to proceed.

I'd recommend just ignoring grands altogether when playing with GIB, as you'll never be able to find them accurately.

I would think before doing so, but I would bid 6 (odd number and a diamond void) over 4N.

I considered it but thought it may discourage a diamond lead. I don't think it makes any difference at all on this hand though :)

Would anyone consider advancing partners 6S to 7

If so, how confident are you.

PS: the relay bid should be 2N not 3C. My mistake,

I need my partner to hold specific cards for 7 to be to be right. My Jxxx club support is a HUGE red flag. I am not moving on.

Seems reasonable :)
Especially with GIB opposite, it would be risky to hazard 7 :(

I do not understand??? Either opener has made trap pass or has a 2 or 3 opening bid here? I still think Soloway 2 is best as opener has so many controls, good suit and fit for partner, but the bidding looks fantasy. Soloway does not say that hand is heading to slam, especially if opener is minimum and there is misfit, so where has opponents 4 - and opp. can bid 3 here also - bid come from? Can you show full hand possum. Thank you.

Thanks for everyone's comments

Here is the full hand. Note my 6S+1 scored only 57.7% in the huge field free MP bot tourney. Many people managed to find their way to 7S or 7C (most via 1S) but I'm still reasonably happy with my choice of action. Thanks for all the comments :)

EDIT. Also I think those who showed their void via 6D were not raised to 7 by the bot

We would start with 1 only because 2 on the fit type hand requires Qxxx or better in partner's suit by our agreements. I would pass (forcing) over 4 in your auction so partner could clarify what sort of jump shift they held.

Note 7x is only 1100, I wonder if anybody saved in 7 and got 7 bid over the top.

Most of the people who got to 7S advanced partner's 6S bid, especially if it was a jump to 6S. Some found 7C after a different sequence where N showed long clubs
