Just a simple question here,

if you play Obvious Shift do you play that a positive signal to the shift is a demand (please shift partner) or that it indicates tolerance for the shift?

Negative signal for led suit says I prefer obvious shift to the logical alternative. Positive signal for led suit says I prefer logical alternative. Neither is a command.

No signal is a command. Signals provide information partner is expected to incorporate that information into his or her decision making process. Having said that, a clear signal should be heeded unless one has a powerful reason not to do so.
