I had ATx QT97xxx x xx. Pard bid 4 hearts, I thought it was a weird bid. As a bonus, I now know how to play the heart suit for 2 losers (8 to Q whereas I tried to run the 8, anyway LHO had Ax so didnt matter)

I guess that would be one of my requests for a laws change. allowing double of pard's bid opens up a lot of possibilities.

never said this particular hand was normal just that partner is preempting normally (well I was a pick up partner so you should assume average). anyway is 3H really so bad? matchpoints favourable?

I think that A10x in the other major makes it beyond the pale. It didn't work particularly well on this deal, did it?
