This one was emailed to me from a recent texas reg KO.

"I held AQ QJ9x Q9xx Kxx. Rightly opens 1C. Unfavorable. What do you bid?"

I don't. Pass.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

1 because I don't like to belly up this early in the auction if I can avoid it

Pass. I want a better suit to o/c 1 on 4 cards. I have only 14 rather quacky HCP and not the best stopper so 1NT is out.

A boring hand, I don't see why I should bid. 1 at unfavourable with 4 card (not that great) suit? Not for me.

thank you for the responses.

I thought pass, 1h and double all were reasonable.

at the table, one bid one h and beat 3nt when declarer played him for 5h, the other table made a takeout x.....and 3nt made.

my vote was for double.....thinking with 14 and a 4 card major, vul....I got to compete...

You can't really plan the auction around which action is likely to induce declarer to go down when LHO has all of the remaining points. The foreseeable downside of doubling with this hand is that you're going to be dummy in some number of spades. Nothing wrong with defending with a good, balanced hand. Pretty clear pass IMO.

ty for your post.

good point

I choose double based on not wanting to miss a vul game in hearts or wanting to compete with less.

I do notice the forum voted pass overwhelmingly. I expect 3nt makes with PASS.

My old email buddy also choose double.....and lost this bd but won this top flight KO.
