white vs white, Imps:

Scoring: IMP

Partner preempts agressively, but not crazy. (Like me.)

4 - (Pass) - ???

How does your hand match to the describtion of HIS preempts?

Give him AJ976542 in Hearts, how many aces to he need to make slam?
Axx,AJ976542 ,V,Ax is no 4 heart bid to me. But this is what you need for 6, so I bid the "obvious" pass.
Kind Regards

Roland

I wasn't considering what we could make, but what the opponents could make.

With our pre-emting style, two aces in partners hand is not worth considering.

I guess the opps will probably lose 1 or two tricks, not a heart. Blackwood, only if 0314 because I don't want a club double after 4NT is doubled, since it probably won't be fooling anyone.

5H seems more likely to get the opps to a slam than pass, and I have no idea whether we want them in slam or not.

6H down 4 or five doubled (maybe even 3) is not good either. After all this, did I pass in tempo?

How about a lift to 5? It takes away 4NT and makes them guess among many alternatives.

I pass.

Maybe pard has a 10 count. Maybe opps are 8 opposite 9 or 10 opposite 7 and were going quietly.

Besides, it's not clear what the opponents can make or whether we have a profitable save.

If you forced me to bid, I would bid 4NT.

If I was drunk, I might bid 5NT.

Easy pass. LHO has not bid 4 yet. And if LHO x's, RHO has not bid 4 yet.

My QJ are a sign that this may go all float.

4N is desperate.

5 sends up the 'double me' flag.

I can bid 5 later if need be. I probably will TBH.

isnt 5h a slam try?

Not if this thread is anything to go by.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I remembered that thread and I don't think it's the same situation. I agree that preemptive is the best treatment but not sure if it's standard

I pass. I think combined chance of them not having/bidding a slam and passing to our 4H is just too much to miss.

My QJ makes me pass this when combined with my minor suit cards

rather than 5 I think 4NT might work better. But I will probably pass.
