In certain situations --one is opening bidder----Theory???
AQ1062--x--Kx-KJ10xx-----So one opens 1sp-but opposition may come in with any-problem theory-if LH opp bid x/2d/2h---P bids 2sp-assume limited{no neg}x to show values.one is not now good enough to bid 3 cl.
so assuming opps are going to bid..... As opener has x ht-------Theory.
Open 1cl-ply sayc---LH opp bids-1d/1ht/x-or passes--if pass partner responds/or passes-RH opp bids x/1d/1h----opener can now bid 1spade,also if in competition rebid spades dependant what LH p responds.----
Partner now hears 2spades from partner-at least he knows you have cl-and should know you have 5 spades-WHY-when partner rebids 2spades with 4 cards,must be from another planet.
My point iswith 5 black and either 5 black x 5 black/or 5 black/5 red{esp D's}
problems arise.

Someone more capable than I am can reference the various threads which have discussed the 5-5 black suit debate.
It is a very good debate, which has been going on probably since before I was born (a very long time ago).

don't open 1♣. pam pam pam.
open 1♣ with 6-6. rappapam.
open 1♣ with 6-6. rappapam.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I have a home grown gadget when opps' don't interfere.
I open 1C with
a) minimum or sub-minimum 5-5 in the blacks or
b ) a 5s/6c hand worthy of a reverse.
If partner has GF values and responds 1-of-a-red suit, then your auction will always go thru 4th suit GF :
1C - 1 Red
1S - 2 other Red!
??
a) 2S = the minimum 5-5 hand but
b ) 3S jump = 5s/6c

To futher add ones dilemma--lets switch the 5x5 blacks-club suit stronger than spades-----------The problem+ theory not such a problem if opps do not interefere..........The problem arises in both situations when they do.
to also include if they do, our partnership has neg x's available.
=====
If there has been a previous debate--is it still available???
