Without discussion I bid 2NT. But it would be nice if I were allowed to bid 2 with this hand - not to show diamonds but just to show some life and allowing p to bid 2 with a minimum and doubleton support.

2 would be a cuebid for me. I try 3. I clearly have too much to pass.

Is 2 forcing? If yes, then 2, though I don't think it can/should be natural.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

2 is NOT natural unless agreed so, my choices either 2 or 3, 2 as cue is a little overbid but sounds better than 2 NT to me. I don't think 2 NT is an option with stiff in unbid suit.

2 will be a 1 card lie about spades, 3 also 1 card lie about , one of them keeps me at 2 level (at least for now) but club suit is at least 5-2 while spades can be 5-1 or 5-0. But with stiff or void in my suit pd must have a good reason to bid. I wish i had a partnership agreement that allows natural 2 bid for this hand, but it would be an agrement that aims small target.

Overall i like 3 the most among my available options.

I am for a pass. If partner is stronger, he would rebid 2di to check my overcall, and when he is a general MF. So now he has around 10nish with 5(6) clubs and possible 4th heart.

What makes this a strong overcall?
Partner heard 1S. He said 2C -- not some strong suggestion. Let 2C play.

What makes this a weak overcall? Say the overcall range is 6-16. Does 13 not sound towards the upper end? What would partner have bid with xx/AKxx/x/AKQxx? Not good enough spades for a cue bid or jump shift; no stopper for 3NT; pass is just not an option here. I suppose you probably play some system where a cue bid is strength-showing rather than an UCB. Trouble is your partner probably isn't.

Zelandakh,
Yes, I do have a GI+ forcing bid.
Freeing other bids to NOT FORCE -- EG. 2C here.
Yup, a maximum (over-the-max to me) 2C might find 3NT.
Do you expect max for partner's bids?
I do not.

While I certainly prefer to overcall in these situations this may be the exception where an initial pass over 1 is best.

Right, because nobody likes bidding a 5 card spade suit to the AK, with an opening hand.
