I scored +1330 for the first time in some while last night. It was hard to know who was more embarrassed - us for playing a slam in partscore or the opponent who doubled it in the pass-out position.

for those of us who don't know:

3 / doubled made 6 vulnerable
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Sorry, it was more of a tweet than a thread (unless others wanted to admit to embarrassing scores).

There should be a seperate forum for enjoyable tweets.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Heh first thing I thought was 730 with 3 overtricks! Unfortunately I know 730 all too well :(

Greatest post of all time.

I know you were joking but we could have that in a "low content" thread, similar to the hijacked thread in watercooler. Doubt it's necessary though.

A funny of mine, we scored 170 in a minor suit partscore in an irregular partnership where we hadn't fully discussed our defence to something. Opponent was rather happy.

At the other table they bid 7. Unfortunately team mate decided to find the only lead to let it through :(

It's a rule that whenever you bid a grand slam, they are in game (or less) at the other table.
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!

I have never played non-transfer Walsh but I thought it was for weaker hands, typically those with no game interest if partner rebids 1NT.

Anyway with South I would move. Partner has clubs, hearts and diamond values so cannot have many spades. Certainly he could have a doubleton but his actual hand is pretty normal.

The usual system are not cappable of discovering small slam in CL, not to speak for a grand one in minor. Only a relay system which discovers the exact partner's shape, the exact play level, and the exact number of partner's A+K, sometimes and Q, can do that with easy. Any attempt to explain how to reach slams in minors with casual systems will be stupid because the slam will be reach simply at very high risk. Two pairs of STARS played a game on 1/16/11, one reached 6NT, the other 6CL. If you fiil embarasing with your result, I do not know what they would say.
I'm not sure if you will be interesting to show how easy is to reach slam with a relay system, because you probably never will play it, but if you think it will be interesting, tell me, I will post the bidding here.

Agree with Nigel, good auction through 3NT but then responder should bid once more. The honors are really good.

I agree with Nigel too: this is a 1 response.

I think the right start is:

1-1
1-1 (FSF)
3-4
4

after which responder can take control with Keycard.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
