How do folks play Rosenkranz? Without discussion, I made a Rosenkranz double with Axxxx support for partner's suit (a 5332 hand) because I thought a simple raise would deny a high honor. Partner described my double as probably Hx. He thinks I should have raised right away to block the opponents.

Whether a raise denies a spade A or K is immaterial on this hand. Rosenkranz are meant to help defend the hand, while you are pretty sure that you want to do whatever you can to declare. I think your partner is right to say you should make a blocking bid, which means that those bids do not necessarily deny the A or K.

Would you then only use a Rosenkranz double with Hx?

IMO, consuming bidding space takes precedence over Rosenkranz and it makes sense to play the X only with Hx (maybe Axx if you want to stretch it).

Partner won't be afraid to lead the overcalled suit after a raise if that looks like the right opening lead...

Hi,

if you make a preemeptive raise, p knowes, our side has 9 cards
in the suit, so the risk, that a lead in this suit blowes a trick
is reduced, ..., the only holding is now bascially Qx vs. Ax.

So the only question is, if a single raise denies a top honor or
not.

The link you mention reads "if, instead, the advancer makes a raise to the two-level in overcaller's suit, he denies possession of a top honor in that suit" (my italics). With Axxxx you wouldn't be raising only to the two-level anyway.

I play Rosencranz redoubles, but when I have a raise I raise. Hence the redouble shows Hx or possibly a singleton honour.
