What is the best way to handle a 2-3-4-4 hand after partner opens 1 Spade??

You have 15-17 pts
and you will probably end in NT.
I am talking more about responders 2nd & 3rd etc bids

lets say Kx, Axx, KJxx, KQxx

Responders 2nd and 3rd round bids depends solely on what prd will bid after u first round response.

We who have 2NT as non J2N, still have a problem if in the 16-17 range as responder. 15, we just claim to not have seen that Jack.

But the good news is that if opener is balanced 5-3-3-2, her max is 14. So, again we just play in 3NT. If spade opener is unbalanced and trots out a new suit (minor), then with the 2-3-4-4 (and 16-17) we can show slam interest. (3H) and still subside in 3NT if opener is weak.

Bigger problem if opener rebids 3H and is interested in slam. Here, the wheels might come off.

If opener rebids 3S, time to cue.

Hi,

playing standard - your best bet is to start with 2C.
That gives opener the most room to describe his hand.

The 2nd bid depends on openers response, but lets assume,
he rebids his suit, i.e. 2S.

Now you have to bid 3NT.

The strength of the delayed 3NT is determined by the strength
of a direct 3NT (or 2NT) response.
