I'm looking for some advice about which phone to get. Right now I have an iPhone 3, which is okay but creates some frustrations. Anyone have a preference about these things?

I am very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S ii, which is generally considered to be the best phone available, but I don't claim to have much experience with non-Android alternatives. I believe it is to be released in the US during August.

I'm looking at the iPhone 4, and debating whether to wait for the iPhone 5. What frustrations does your iPhone 3 cause?

I've used a Blackberry since they first came on the market. I've had several models and I've never been unhappy with any of them. Of course, being a University of Waterloo alumnus I may be a little biased.

Flash doesn't work. This includes trying to look at hands on BBF.

The GPS seems extremely slow and sometimes causes my phone to hang for up to a minute when I try to use the maps function. Also, the GPS does not do auto-updates for applications like Google Latitude.

The camera has some issue that causes it not to work with apps that scan bar codes,qr codes, or business cards.

There are some issues with multi-tasking where one task seems to hang when I switch to another. Also, if I leave the web browser and then go back to it, the phone seems to need to load whatever page I was looking at again (which takes time and might stall if I have no connection).

It seems to be harder than it should be to customize ring tones.

Because iPhone connects only through iTunes, it's tough to transfer pdf files or other data back and forth between phone and computer.

---------

With all that said, some of these features have been corrected in iPhone 4 (in particular the GPS and camera issues). There are also many very nice things about the iPhone, including great storage space for music and great sound quality, very smooth and easy-to-use interface, never seems to really crash (although particular apps have crashed). The online app store has great selection and a lot of cool stuff for free. Battery power is okay on iPhone; it's enough to last me from morning until bedtime even under pretty heavy use, which is all I really need.

I had a ten year old Siemens phone that, sadly, stopped working a couple of months ago. The battery wouldn't recharge properly any more. Fortunately we had a Sony Ericsson phone that my wife only stopped using a couple of years ago so I switched the SIM cards and it's all fine now. Sorry I don't know the model numbers though.

Do you want to be able to phone someone or do you want a small laptop? :P

i just like a phone that calls people. And sends texts. Though frankly, i'm abivalent about the value of texts. I cannot imagine anythign worse than a phone that beeps at me when I have mail. It would be like a really clingy friend who just won't go away.

Worst you go thte pub with your friends and now its virtually impossible to sustain a conversation as they are always "just answering one facebook message". Or attempting to show me a "classic status update" about someone I really don't care about.

Humans have always been pretty prone to gossiping rather than talking about anything interesting. 3G phones have definitely negatively affected my life. I would definitely send all my friends back to 2G phones if at all possible.

I don't think either of them would like that :)
