you deal, you're NV (I can't remember what they were).

p-2C*-p-2D*
?

2C is a weak 2 in diamonds or strong
2D is more or less forced.

you can double here for t/o, do you?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

patton scoring. 50% of the VP are based on imps, 50% on BAM

No. To double with these high cards I'd need three fewer diamonds.

Yeah, it's a bit embarrassing when the 23 count redoubles ... not enough shape

Sorry, can't count - I meant "two fewer". That is, I'd double with a 4414 or (54)13 shape and the same high cards.

I'm not worried about LHO's being strong; I am worried about getting into an auction that I don't want to be in.

Other than the chance of the strong hand, is this auction the same as 2(weak)-P-P ? (as far as the hands you bid on is concerned, or is it closer to the second seat position ?)

I know we play that we assume that this is the weak version and bid over it in much the same way in second seat, but haven't had much discussion in 4th.

What do most people play 2-P-2-P-P-X as ?

2-p-2-p; p-x is just a weakish takeout x of diamonds. what else?

That's what I thought (it's not totally stupid to play it as pens particularly v 5 card weak 2), therefore you have no need to bid, partner will bid over opener's pass if you want to be in this auction. either X or 2M.

Their vulnerability may matter since if p can't reopen he will have some diamond length and 2 is likely to go down. I think I pass if they are vul and double if they are nonvul.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
