What do you re-open?

We were playing Acol with a weak NT, so 1 only promised 4 cards.

I would just bid 2H, sorry in advance partner. It is very very likely he has a trap pass but my defense is quite bad, and if he happens to not have a trap pass X could work quite badly (for example partner might have something like AJxxx x xxx Qxxx and he will bid 3S over my double).

Also even if partner has a trap pass, they may have a good spot to run to (spades), in which case I will not be happy with my double especially if partner rips 2S.

Double only when North usually makes poor overcall, otherwise 2.

2 ... good 6 card suit and little defense. Easy call..IMHO.

Double was the right bid on this particular hand, unfortunately my partner chose 2:

3NT is not a success - I went 2 off. 4 is makeable, but we can get any 2 level contract down 3 double dummy for a top.

I can see double would have worked really well, but East shouldn't bid 3NT over 2D. That's the bid of someone cross that partner hasn't reopened with a double. 2NT is enough.

Yeah I mean hands like this are very much "how messed up does partner have this contract?" and you just try to do the percentage thing, but sometimes partner gives you the angry 3N lol.
