What is the correct bid for S

IMO things that went wrong are:

-Opponents don´t play support double
-Your hand fits perfectrly for a game with 22 HCP combined with only 8 trumps.

I wouldn´t go mad trhinking on hands like this, even when you double fist there is no guarantee you will find this game.

Why 3♠ after 2♣? What does it convey that 2♠ doesn't?

You don't need to find pard with much other than K♠ third to have play for game. I'd X then rebid 2♠ (jump rebidding 3♠ needs even more). I don't hate your simple o/c and if PD had enough to stretch to a raise in comp or if opps compete and you can bid ♠ again, it could work out. As it is, don't fret too much. You missed a perfect fit 22 HCP game with 8 trumps. Still I prefer X then 2♠ but what if the bidding comes back to you at the 3 level and pard is broke...could get dicey.

For me X then 3♠ would show just about opening 2♣ strength and clearly this isn't that good.

Agree - South needs to X then bid 2S. Most people play this as F1 (but not GF). North's hand isn't great, but his singleton H and Kxx spades should be enough to convince him to bid 4S over that.

If he only bids 3S, how many people raise to 4 with South? I would.

I would bid 2♠ with the N hand, but then my overcalls are sounder than most and both 2♦ and 2♥ would be better raises so it doesn't show much.
